Veljo Tormis Discography

© Alan Teder 2002-12

Updated June 21, 2012 with 10 releases from 2005 to 2012. Primarily under Section A) Composer Compact Discs ("Autoriplaadid" in Estonian).

As of the February 23, 2003 update, the Compact Disc portion of the discography has been reorganized into 4 sections as follows:

  • A) Composer Compact Discs - These are the major releases that consist entirely of compositions by Veljo Tormis (known as autoriplaadid in estonian).
  • B) World premiere recordings on Compact Disc - These releases contain world premiere recordings of compositions by Veljo Tormis which in many cases are not available on any other recording, but the discs will also contain works by other composers.
  • C) Compact Discs with other new recordings - These releases contain other appearances of compositions by Veljo Tormis on disc. These discs will also contain works by other composers.
  • D) Compilations - These releases contain works or excerpts of works that have been previously released.

Each of these groupings are in chronological order, with the most recent at the top. New additions are marked with *asterisks*.

The templating format used is: Disc Title in bold (with an English translation in brackets, if the translation is not part of the official title) and in light blue with hyperlink to either the source record company or to a customized disc detail page if this is complete (my goal is to prepare disc detail pages for each listing below, eventually). Record Company Name and Catalogue Number (Year of Release with country specificity, if applicable) Choir and/or Orchestra / Conductor (if applicable). [items with square brackets and ? indicate that a portion of the information is not yet known or is not yet definite.]

Please have the courtesy to request my permission and give credit if you are going to reprint this discography in your own work. I have devoted considerable time and energy in researching and assembling this list as a public service and would respectfully ask that this be acknowledged.

If you know of discs not listed below and would be willing to assist with details and perhaps a front cover .jpg image scan, I would be pleased to receive any or all information at my e-mail address alan.teder@sympatico.ca.

1 The two Veljo Tormis LPs by the Ellerhein Chamber Choir actually have the same title, which is simply the composer's name. In order to distinguish them, choral fans refer to them as "the first Ellerhein/Tormis and the second Ellerhein/Tormis" or sometimes by their album sleeve colours as "the white album and the orange album".

2 Although it is not evident from its title, the RAM 3 LP contains roughly 55% Veljo Tormis content.
